Vijay Nath, MD
From a young age, Dr. Vijay Nath knew he wanted to be a physician. Administering insulin to his diabetic grandmother as an eight-year-old was his first venture into medical care. This experience showed him the importance of being able to care for someone else in a selfless manner. From that point on, he worked "to be a doctor". An anatomy and physiology class during his senior year of high school taught him about the beauty and elegance of the kidney. He appreciated the complexity of these little organs and all of the things that they could do. As he matured, he realized that he would not only need to understand the science of the kidney and the whole body, but also gain a deeper appreciation of the human spirit. His college years taught me to appreciate the differences in people and the need to learn about them as individuals to provide supportive and empathetic care. The remainder of his training including medical school, residency and fellowship served to crystalize this union between the art and the science of being a caring and dedicated physician.
As he completed his training in 2005, Dr. Nath and his wife decided to find a home and a practice where Dr. Nath could impact the community and allow their family to thrive. He chose Georgia Kidney Associates in Marietta, Georgia so that they could raise their children in a supportive environment close to all of the things that a large city could offer (Go Braves, Falcons, and Hawks!) while retaining a small town feeling in a practice where he could mature. Dr. Nath and his wife have been able to raise both of their children in this wonderful town and feel fortunate that they made a great decision so many years ago. Georgia Kidney Associates and the community of Marietta have molded Dr. Nath's personal philosophy on providing medical care as he now further realizes the importance of providing dedicated, compassionate and personal medical care to not only the patient, but also the larger family around the individual. He enjoys treating patients and their families with issues pertaining to their chronic kidney disease, hypertension and dialysis care.
While Dr. Nath enjoys his time at Georgia Kidney Associates, he is also interested in the larger medical community. He has been fortunate to have been elected as the Chief of Staff at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital and still serve on the Medical Executive Committee. Additionally, he is the Medical Director for Nephrology and Dialysis Services at Wellstar Health System as well as a Physician Advisor for the electronic medical record system used at Wellstar.
Dr. Nath's personal interests include rooting for anything pertaining to the University of Michigan sports teams, hiking, physical fitness, music, and reading as well as being supportive of any interests expressed by his wife and children.
